5 Reasons You Need To Act TODAY

The procrastination monster strikes the best of us, but sometimes procrastination turns into something worse. You keep putting off your dreams, then one day you wake up and look back on what ‘could’ve, should’ve would’ve’ been. It’s easy to let your fear – of failure, success or possibly both – keep you from acting. But there are 5 critical reasons why you need to act on your dreams TODAY.

Time Waits For No Man

People have been conditioned by society to believe that the older they get, the less likely they are to achieve a big dream. Most people talk themselves out of going back to school if they are older than 22; moving overseas once you’ve started your career is definitely out for most; and you can forget dropping everything and pursuing a huge dream once you’re married with kids. Or so people say…

I say, you can complete any goal at any time. But it’s harder for you to convince yourself of that. You probably have to fight against that little voice in your mind that tells you your time has past. Not only that, the people in your life tell you that your time has past.

Instead of believing all the naysayers and energy vampires, believe in yourself and your dream. And believe that your time is now. The present is all you really have – you can’t act in the future and you can’t go back and change the past. So you might as well start your dreams today.

Opportunity Could Be Passing You By

You’ve asked, asked and asked some more for the things you desire. You might believe that nothing’s happening, but God/the Universe is aligning the resources needed to make your dream a reality. So when you stop moving forward, you’re delaying the realization for what you’ve been asking for.

Example: you desire a mate and have been asking for someone wonderful to cross your path. Then you sit at home and have endless Blockbuster nights, you mean mug everyone when you go out and you don’t seem friendly or approachable. In those examples, you’re not letting that person you’ve been asking for to come into your life. Your inaction, negative thoughts or self-consciousness cause you to repel the very thing you want.

All of that alignment on your half goes to waste when you don’t show up where you’re supposed to. You’re supposed to show up in the places and with the action that moves your dream forward. If not, that opportunity you’ve been asking for can’t unfold.

Fear Never Goes Away

The saying “fake it till you make it” is popular for a reason: it allows you to act, right where you are. I’ve seen in alot of instances though where people try to master their fear first, then act. This rarely works because fear changes. You may master your fear of starting something new, but you won’t have that same fear as you near the end of your efforts. You also won’t have that same fear when starting something else new.

Don’t delay reaching your dreams because of fear. Everyone feels it, even though alot of people will have you fooled by how effortless they make achievement look. So don’t feel that you’re alone with fearing success or failure. It is what it is, but you can’t stand still because of it. Feel your fear and do what you need to do anyway. You’ll thank yourself later when you’ve reached the destination that you’re trying to go in.

Delaying Costs You Money

The longer you wait to start your business, the longer it’ll take to make it profitable. And the longer it’ll take for you to make the money you deserve. You’re basically flushing money down the toilet by twiddling your thumbs on your dream.

In How to Get Rich, Felix Dennis wrote about how, in the late 70s, he listened to a trusted older man when he wanted advice on starting a computer magazine. His friend told him that no one was interested in a magazine about computers. Dennis listened but still held on to his passion. It turns out that someone else started the magazine, and Dennis ended up paying $1 million to buy a majority stake in the magazine.

If he had started the magazine when he first got the idea, saved the $1 million that he paid to buy out the original owner, and invested it, he’d be $10 million richer from that one idea. You never thought a delay could be so costly, did you?

Neither did I, but that goes to show that we never know how much our delays truly cost us… “time is money” is really an understatement.

Your Dream Could Die

One of the best reasons for acting TODAY is that your dream doesn’t have an unlimited shelf life. It’s invigorating to have a dream to work toward, but after a while your enthusiasm will naturally die. If you don’t at least begin your work and nurture your dream with action, it’ll remain a thought in your head with nothing to show that it existed.

How many times have you had a dream, something you were really passionate about, but others didn’t feel the same? And no matter how much you talked about it or thought about it, somehow it fell by the wayside and never happened. That didn’t mean you lost your passion, but it died a natural death. The only way to prevent that from happening is to let your dream take flight.

If not now, when? If not you, who?

  1. Hi there Anilia. The take home thing for me about this post, alongside the awesome phrase “energy vampires”, was the point that “delaying costs you money”. I know that I initially delayed, because I was unsure of my direction, then I was learning, then I got confused..the list goes on. But I’m realising that some of the actions I take aren;t necessarily designed to take me the the next level. This post inspired me to rethink my approach to things

I’m getting ready to retire in a few weeks, and I’m so excited about all the new possibilities. I’m sure I will be busier than ever! No moss growing here!

  3. You ALWAYS inspire me. I will never forget how I felt when I went into business with a friend. We didnt share the same passion, drive, etc. Consequently it failed. Deep inside I felt like I FAILED. I gave up. Than I read one of your blogs and it spoke right into my situation. Put the fire under my butt. A little over a year later. I have relocated. Started MY business on MY OWN (my ONLY source of income)….just revamped my website. And am taking EVERY OPPURTUNITY I can imagine to grow it. VIP Concierge and Consulting, LLC is not just a job its my LIFE. Thanks for being my personal mentor. You gave me what I had lost, faith in myself and in my abilities for that I am eternally grateful! xoxox

      Tammy!!! You are AMAZING!!

I was listening to Think And Grow Rich today, and heard one of my favorite thoughts: “a man is never defeated until he accepts in his mind that it is so”. And Thomas Edison, after failing 10,000 times in his experiments to create the incandescent lamp, said “I HAD to succeed because I finally ran out of things that wouldn’t work.”

Armed with the lessons you learned from your first business venture you’re much more equipped to be a success with VIP Concierge. I’m so proud of you for continuing on your path, because so many people either talk themselves out of starting or quit at the first sign of adversity.

      Winners NEVER quit!!! xoxoxo

Anilia, Love your posts. Not only are they inspiring but they are also kick-ass motivating. I’ve been dragging my dreams around with me for years. Admittedly, I’ve made several attempts and had to overcome major obstacles along the way, but while I’m not giving up, I’m not doing anything to advance them. This post is a keeper, one I want to tack up on my bulletin board to remind me to push ahead and find a way to making my dreams come true – before it’s too late because I’m no spring chicken.

Good stuff! Thanks for the reminder to all of us entrepreneurs out here! Cheers!
