Are You Still Getting It In?

So many of us were determined to ‘get it in in 2010’. In January, you could literally feel the excitement and enthusiasm for a new year and a new decade in the air. I started off this year by choosing a theme for the year and the principles I would work on. You can review that post here. Then, after 3 months, I reviewed my progress in this post. Continuing the analogy that I’m the CEO of Me, its now time for another quarterly review.

This review is even more important, because half of the year has passed. I had several intentions at the beginning of the year – namely to lose weight and incorporate healthy eating habits into my life, take my business and blog to the next level (two specific goals are to become my own boss and write an ebook for Motivated Sista), start a committed relationship, and improve my cooking skills.

How Far I’ve Come

Taking stock of exactly where you are, how far you’ve come and how far you still need to go is integral to your progress. How can you progress if you don’t know which direction you need to go in or what adjustments you need to make? I think this is one of the biggest reasons for failure, besides lack of self-confidence. We either don’t take action or continue to take the wrong action, and then wonder why we’re not where we really want to be.

  • Weight Loss and Eating Habits


The biggest change I’ve made regarding this area is a shift in mindset. Initially I wanted to improve my cooking skills and increase the frequency of how often I cook. I had a few Sunday dinner cooking experiences, where I picked some of my favorite foods and chose recipes to learn how to make those dishes better than I already knew how. It was fun for a while but then I knew I couldn’t continue to eat heavy meals and reach my weight loss goals at the same time. I also wasn’t learning how to incorporate healthy eating habits if I lost my mind on Sundays. So I switched gears and started reading up on healthy eating habits.

Then my mind flashed to a blog post I’d read over at Clumps of Mascara. I remember when Brittany first posted about green smoothies, I couldn’t imagine someone wanting to put spinach in a smoothie. In my own mind, I was working through the misconception that only ‘crunchy’ people who hugged trees and recycled would follow a vegan eating pattern. It didn’t seem like it fit who I am.

(In the pic: a pineapple mango smoothie and fruit salad: bananas, apples, mango and walnuts.) As I read more and more about eating healthy, I thought about another post she wrote about eating raw. Then, Jonathan over at Illuminated Mind did a video about eating raw.. and I had to pause. Whenever something pops up more than once in my reality, I stop and look at what that thing is. I’m glad I did. I’m already a little distrustful of the American food industry, and turns out I have reason to be. We’re not going to talk about the ways in which animals are handled and food is processed… we’re just gonna focus on the fact that this way of eating became more and more attractive to me. So I decided to take the plunge. Overall, I’m moving away from a processed, chemical-laced lifestyle (with my diet, my hair, body care products and products for the home, to name a few ways), toward a more natural, healthy way to live. I know that my family has longevity – my grandfather was 86 and my grandmother turns 105 next month – so its time I honor my genetic blessings by following a path to radiant health.

Maybe one day I’ll sit down and compose a post about my raw experiences so far (but that day ain’t today…lol). For now, I know I’ve just hit the tip of the iceberg, and have an entire transition ahead of me. In the meanwhile, I’ve been working about about 2 times a week and have lost 5 pounds. I’m switching back to a night shift at work and that should free up more of my time to work out even more.

  • Business and Blogging


As far as Black Girl Tees goes, I’ve been up and down. Learning to market a business online is much more tedious and nuanced than I knew when I started my store. If I knew then what I know now, I’d have learned much more about marketing, branding and social media before I took the plunge. But it is what it is. Learning as I’m growing is a great classroom and I’m learning valuable lessons from the trenches.

In May I participated in a fashion show and had a blast networking with other t-shirt entrepreneurs. You can view the rest of the pics from the show on the Facebook fan page.

I’m currently working on my first ebook and I plan on completing it in July. This book will be free, and if you’re subscribed to my mailing list you’ll receive it as thanks for following my blog. I’m really excited about it and as much as I love blogging, I think composing my thoughts in an actual book will be even more beneficial for us Motivated CEOs and Boss Ladies. I’m all about motivation and progress and I hope my ebook reflects that. So stay tuned for that. Also, I’m in the midst of launching my blog installation business, and I’ll share that when its completed.

Only time will tell how long it will be before I can fire my boss. I have a quote posted in my cubicle, from an interview that Jonathan from Illuminated Mind did over at Income Diary, that motivates me daily to continue working on my goal –

I personally believe the biggest attribution to making this happen for myself was knowing 100% without a doubt that this was going to happen. It was only a matter of time and I would do whatever it took and I would try everything that I possibly could try. I would fail over and over if that’s what needed to happen, but I knew that it was just a matter of time.

I know this is going to happen for me. One of the principles I’m following this year – increased faith – assures me that I won’t fail. It just takes time, perserverance and patience. Nothing happens overnight, there is no magic want or magic bullet to success. The most important thing is that I enjoy this journey of becoming and allow myself to expand into Who I Really Am in the  process.

  • Relationship goal


Most of the time, I’m so busy with everything I have going on, that I don’t devote time to meeting new men and developing a relationship. My efforts so far have been limited to online dating, which isn’t a bad thing – I’d like to devote more time to dating though, as if it were a job search. Since I’m going back to working nights, I’ll have the same challenge that I previously had of attending events during the week where I’ll be around eligible men.

So far, my only solution to that is to be out and about during the day, namely by having lunch downtown before I go to work. I’m accustomed to doing alot of things alone, but eating isn’t one of them. So this is something that I’ll have to actively work on during the upcoming months, especially since its warm and scorching lovely outside right now. Just like with eating raw, I will immerse myself in information and try new things out slowly, developing a list of my likes and dislikes along the way.

My Next Steps

For the next quarter, July – September, I plan to:

  • continue to transition to a raw vegan diet
  • transition to natural hair
  • continue to lose weight, at least 15 pounds during that time
  • launch my blog installation business
  • revamp Black Girl Tees
  • meet new men and go on more dates
  • finish my ebook and have Motivated Sista redesigned

    LOVE YOU FOR THIS POST and REMINDER that New Year’s resolutions shouldn’t be put down because we’ve either faltered or forgotten. This is great (as was your last post). I’m a newbie to your blog but already love it much! MWAH!

    2010 is shaping up fairly well for me:

    Health Goals:
    Adding more yogurt to my eating habits. I have noticed a change (positive) in my body.

    Bringing back the Perfect Push-Up to my exercise schedule. Adding Toning Bands to my workout. Loving the results from both of these. The Perfect Push-Up is giving me the toned Pectorals that I find to be sexy, and the bands are reshaping my thigh muscles.

    Business Goals:
    At the end of 2009, I had the creative idea to add something new, fun, and different to my product line. It is the 4 Seasons Spa Combo. This combo changes with each season. Have had some success with this, but still would like to see more being shipped.

    To allow Social Networking to effectively work for me, I purposely looked for a source that would connect all my social networking sites and blog together. This really has cut down on the time that I have to spend online. I was spending way too much (and unproductive time, I might add) on social networking sites. This change has significantly worked in my favor. I have gained new customers by systematically getting their attention.

    I had also set goals to change the dynamics of my business. To not just solely concentrate on consumer retail sales, I implemented Wholesaling and Client Gifting into the business. This has opened doors for my business.

    Relationship Goal:
    To be more ambitious for my marriage (my husband/best friend). I am truly loving the results of this.

    Self Goal:
    As a wife and mother (who home educates), and business woman, it is so easy to get lost. I realized that I needed to take full advantage of my husband’s uninhibited environment, my children’s self-sufficient behavior, and take my time. Working-Out is usually my out. However, I have purpose to Go Out. I make a list of stores that I want to visit, and even places that I would like to go to have a yummy beverage. For a few hours it is just me, myself, and I. When I return home there is so much love. Not only is going out for myself, but I want to empower my girls in everything they see me do. I want them to understand that it is alright for them to remember who they are, when/if they become wives, mothers, etc.

    All in all, I am happy with the progress of things. I will continue moving forward.

    Yes, I’m still getting in! I have accomplished at least 2 of my business goals and well on my way to the 3rd which is a personal weight loss goal. Time is just passing by so fast. It’s already July…I think maybe I need to step it up a notch (or two)!

    I love it!

    This is what I’m talking about. Set goals and follow-up with them.

    I don’t care what you plan on doing, if you HAVE a plan, you are way more like to get there. Are you still getting it in? Uhhhh… looks that way!

    As far as your weight loss goes, I highly recommend eating raw and/or vegan. I have some info on my site but there is a TON of knowledge out there for you. The key is to stay motivated and you look like you are doing that.

  6. Those are my New Year’s resolutions: 1. Listen – support, challenge and listen to my inner self and others. 2. Patience – Have far more patience, God grant me the? tranquility to just accept the things I cannot change, the courage to alter the things I can as well as the wisdom to know the difference. three. Yoga-honor my body as a gift from God enjoying and celebrating with breath and movement. yeah four. Organize- Wonderful CD titled “Getting Things Done” assists me five. Church Lessons-Doing the very best I can with the skills I presently have.
